Twenty years ago, the opioid epidemic was something that not many dealt with on a personal level. It was seen occasionally in the news but it was never something that affected as many as it does today. In the past few years, this epidemic has taken center stage in the news and media. Most recently, the Opioid Commission urged President Trump to declare a state of emergency.

International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) is a worldwide event that is held annually on August 31st that aims to raise awareness of overdose. Spreading the message that the tragic deaths due to opioid use are preventable.

The movement to reduce opioid abuse has generated so much momentum that medical healthcare facilities are joining in to publicly announce their stance to reduce the number of opioid prescriptions prescribed in upcoming years. Physicians and electronic health vendors are collaborating to find out potential solutions to decrease the number of opioid overdoses and deaths caused my prescription medications. Many practices have already begun to implement e-prescribing software to alleviate some of the problems with prescribing that can lead to tragic opioid abuse.

This August 31st, help RXNT and the rest of our nation bring awareness to overdoses by showing your support. For more information, visit IOAD’s website.
