As of January 1st, 2022 all Schedule II-V controlled substance prescriptions must be transmitted electronically to pharmacies in Utah. Electronic Prescribing for Controlled Substances (EPCS) mandates and legislation is crucial to curb the opioid epidemic and safely prescribe prescriptions. Despite the 2022 deadline that "requires most prescriptions for controlled substances to be issued electronically (e-prescribing)," the Utah Department of Commerce's Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL) temporarily suspended enforcement and compliance actions until further notice.
