New Hampshire: 2022 State EPCS Mandate
The deadline was January 1, 2022. Is your software certified?
RXNT Will Help You Comply in New Hampshire
Beginning on January 1st, New Hampshire joins a growing majority of U.S. states that will require electronic prescriptions for controlled substances. Electronic Prescribing for Controlled Substances (EPCS) mandates and legislation is crucial to curb the opioid epidemic and safely prescribe in a state that was among the highest in the country for opioid overdose-related deaths in 2019. For more specific information about the New Hampshire EPCS ruling, see the New Hampshire House Bill 143.
Gary Merchant, one of three State Representatives sponsoring HB143 said “It’s a lot easier to modify a written prescription than an electronic one,” referring to the ability to illegally alter a paper script. He continued, “We were trying to find one of the last few loopholes that people can use to fraudulently deceive a pharmacist.“
While there are no penalties for violating the newly approved legislation yet, licensing boards will be tracking and investigating noncompliance and exceptions for prescribers. As of November 2021, just 63% of New Hampshire prescribers are enabled for EPCS. Is your practice equipped to handle the mandate?
