Maryland: Upcoming 2022 EPCS Mandate Deadline
The Deadline is January 1st, 2022. Is Your Practice Ready?
RXNT Will Help You Comply in Maryland
On January 1st, the state of Maryland will take an important step towards enhancing prescription security and reducing the likelihood of fraudulent prescribing by requiring electronic prescriptions for all controlled medications. Electronic Prescribing for Controlled Substances (EPCS) mandates and legislation is crucial to curb the opioid epidemic and safely prescribe. As of November, 2021 only 48% of prescribers are enabled for EPCS. For more specific information about the Maryland EPCS ruling, see the Senate Bill 166/House Bill 512.
Steven Anderson, President and CEO of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) said “The use of secure technology rather than paper prescriptions helps decrease prescription drug diversion and fraud and also has benefits in a situation like the current pandemic.“
Be aware! Disciplinary action will be taken by the relevant and appropriate health occupations board for prescribers who are noncompliant with the legislation. Is your practice equipped to handle the mandate?
