Washington State: 2022 State EPCS Mandate
The deadline was January 1, 2022. Is your software certified?
RXNT Will Help You Comply in Washington
On January 1st, 2022, all Schedule II–V controlled substances and medications must use electronic prescribing to pharmacies in Washington state, and violation of the ruling could result in civil penalties for your practice. For more specific information about the Washington EPCS ruling, see RCW 69.50.312 from the Washington State Legislature. At the same time, healthcare providers with 10 or more prescribers must demonstrate that their EHR system fully integrates with the Washington State Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP). For more specific information about the PMP/PDMP ruling, see RCW 70.225.090.
Originally set to take effect on January 1, 2021 and pushed back to September 30th after the WA Department of Health issued a blanket waiver delaying the deadlines in accordance with the COVID-19 pandemic and its effect on healthcare providers. Now, the enforcement deadline has been delayed again after the Washington Secretary of Health moved the deadline to January.
