Medical groups and health systems have the unique ability to influence the safe prescribing of opioid medications and affect patients suffering from addiction, thereby reducing overdoses and death. Sentara Medical Group educated providers on opioid prescribing and built tools within their EMR (such as a decision support matrix, best practice alerts, and medication preference lists), allowing providers to stay compliant with the Board of Medicine regulations, while still providing safe chronic pain management for their patients.

Attend the AMGA session on Friday, March 29 at 10:30 am to learn how Sentara Medical Group achieved a 42% decrease in opioid prescribing in a 16-month period, as well as a decrease in fatal overdoses in their region.
