ePrescribing Overview

ePrescribing is the process of generating and transmitting a prescription or renewal request electronically.

Using the diagram above, a practitioner (A) logging securely into RxNT will select a patient pre-populated from the practitioner’s billing system; the RxNT system (B) will automatically run a real—time patient eligibility check and will retrieve patient specific formulary information and claims medication history from participating health plans (C) during the prescribing process. The RxNT system will provide patient specific formulary information in easy to understand color and symbol formats. If a practitioner selects a non-formulary medication or a medication that may cause a drug or allergy interaction, the RxNT system will provide warnings and alternatives when available based on practitioner preferences. Retail and mail order pharmacies (D) will receive electronic prescriptions (or faxes if they are not capable of receiving electronic prescriptions) from RxNT. Pharmacies capable of generating electronic renewals will transmit renewal requests to participating RxNT practitioners.
