Tired of spending time chasing down prior authorizations? The headache has ended! Electronic Prior Authorization (EPA) automates the process of prior authorizations so physicians can submit requests in real-time. This means the era of waiting on hold, filling out forms, and checking online portals is over.

In July 2013, the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) approved EPA or“…the process that is used to request coverage of a specific medication for a specific patient.” EPA is also able to determine if an approval is required for a specific medication for a patient, based on eligibility and formulary data.

Surescripts estimates that 90% of prior authorization requests require a phone call or a fax, which is equivalent to between $2,000 and $14,000 per physician per year. The automated end-to-end process is not only less expensive for the practice, but it saves precious time that can be spent treating more patients. EPA checks are ran directly within RXNT|EHR, reducing the need to toggle between multiple databases. With a click of a button, the patient’s health plan is available to assist in identifying the appropriate medication based on the patient’s benefit plan.

Faster results means happier patients! EPA’s immediate results allows a physician to know if a medication needs approval at the time of prescribing . This eliminates patients having to wait a day or two to receive their prescription, as well as making several trips between their doctor’s office and the pharmacy.

If your practice is ready to stop chasing down prior authorizations, RXNT|EHR with built in EPA can help you. For more information or to schedule your free demonstrations, please call 800-943-7968 option 3 or email us at [email protected].
